FILM
My journey into film was actually an accident. For my Grade 10 leadership project I decided to create a YouTube channel that would introduce prospective students to life at UWC ISAK Japan. I enjoyed learning new editing techniques I had seen other influencers use in their videos. and tried to master Final Cut Pro. I continued this project until my Grade 11 year. At that time I was enrolled in IB theater. However, I wasn't enjoying the class as it was a lot more textbook-based rather than practical. A lot of the film students spent their time creating short films, and I remembered my passion for creating and editing. Therefore, I made the switch from Theater HL to Film HL. I was also inspired to restart my YouTube channel. It currently has over 100 subscribers, and is one of my favorite activities to do in my free time.

For the future, I would like to learn more about music video editing, which was an interest I discovered through my love for K-pop. The unique editing styles, visual effects, and techniques all pique my interest, and I hope to further my studies in this area.

Below is my journey as a filmmaker throughout high school:
First ever YouTube video: Day in the life part 1
This was the first video I every edited for YouTube. I wasn't able to attend school yet as I was online, so I filmed what life was like being an online student from 1am to 8am. I am really proud of the editing of this video, and I think it was a really strong start to my YouTube career.
Hero-Villain: IB Film assignment (Editor: me)
This was a collaborative film project my film teacher assigned to us. Four people per group, and each had to have a different role. I chose the role of editor, and took a lot of inspiration from New Jeans's music video "Ditto". It was my first time attempting color grading. I have improved a lot since (it can be seen in my Matsumoto vlog).
Favorite YouTube video: Matsumoto Castle
In G11, I started a series called ISAK Diaries where I'd film my ISAK journey through an old hand-held camera of mine (that is why the film quality is kind of low). This is my favorite video at the moment as I had a lot of fun editing it, and the trip itself was very enjoyable. I also took a shot at color grading and was really impressed with the results.
Favorite IB film: 10 Stills
As the title suggests, this was my favorite film of my G11 year. The concept was simple: tell a story in 10 stills. However, I really enjoyed editing my photos and creating a magical soundscape that could bring the stills to life.
Most Recent Film: II
This is my most recent film for the IB, and I took on the role of Editor. The script was co-written by myself and one of my peers. I challenged myself by attempting the psychological thriller genre, utilizing many codes and conventions to successfully portray the genre to the audience. I was very proud of the result.
